The games universal appeal, though, stretches back in reality a bit farther than its television scores. Over the years several variants on the first poker game have been developed, including a handful of games that are not in reality poker anymore. Caribbean stud poker is one of these games. Regardless of the name, Caribbean stud poker is more closely resembling chemin de fer than old guard poker, in that the gamblers wager against the casino instead of the other players. The succeeding hands, are the established poker hands. There is no concealment or different types of bamboozlement. In Caribbean stud poker, you are required to ante up just before the croupier announcing "No further wagers." At that moment, both you and the bank and of course all of the other players are given 5 cards each. After you have looked at your hand and the dealer’s initial card, you need to either make a call wager or surrender. The call bet’s value is akin to your beginning ante, which means that the risks will have increased two fold. Abandoning means that your bet goes immediately to the bank. After the bet is the face off. If the casino does not have ace/king or better, your bet is returned, including a sum equal to the ante. If the house has a hand with ace/king or better, you succeed if your hand defeats the bank’s hand. The dealer pony’s up money even with your ante and fixed odds on your call bet. These odds are:
- Even for a pair or high card
- two to one for 2 pairs
- 3-1 for three of a kind
- four to one for a straight
- 5-1 for a flush
- 7-1 for a full house
- 20-1 for a 4 of a kind
- 50-1 for a straight flush
- 100-1 for a royal flush
