No-Limit Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker contender in the world by many of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandpa introduced him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to pickup everything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t let the negative feedback from other people destroy his ambition of being one of the strongest poker players in the world.

Phil began competing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning was not a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated a number of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal love for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his achievements. He admits to making blunders every single game of poker and always strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some large tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a regular basis.
