Omaha Hi/Low: Basic Summary

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is commonly seen as one of the most complex but popular poker games. It is a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites play from every level of players. This is the main reason why a once invisible game, has grown in popularity so quickly.
Omaha/8 begins like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are handed out to every player. A round of wagering follows in which gamblers can wager, check, or drop out. Three cards are given out, this is called the flop. A further round of betting ensues. Once all the players have in turn called or dropped out, a further card is flipped on the turn. an additional round of betting follows and then the river card is flipped. The entrants must attempt to put together the strongest high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is the point where a few entrants can get confused. Contrasted to Texas Hold ‘Em, where the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha hi lo the player must use precisely 3 cards from the board, and exactly two cards from their hand. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot could be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is just how it sounds. It is the strongest possible hand out of every player’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It’s the same concept in almost every poker game.
A low hand is more complicated, but certainly opens up the play. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the worst hand that can be put together, with the worst being A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and below. The low hand wins half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there’s no lower hand available, the high hand wins the entire pot.
Although it seems complex at the start, after a couple of hands you will be able to get the base subtleties of the game with ease. Since you have players betting for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as so many cards are in play, Omaha hi low provides an overwhelming assortment of betting choices and owing to the fact that you have many individuals battling for the high, along with several shooting for the low.
