No-Limit Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker player on the globe by quite a few of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather introduced him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to learn every little thing he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the detrimental comments from others annihilate his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

He started competing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed many of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and a continuing passion for the game of poker. He says that he is learning every single day and is quite abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes errors in each session of poker and always strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some big tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
