Net High Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

Gus Hansen enjoyed an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only one to achieve closing table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He secured a large pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has earned many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest gamblers in the world. While competing in internet poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. He regularly competes in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of $40, 000. Hansen more often than not buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I know Hansen is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is penniless, he has absolutely no reason to sit at the game with the minimum buy in.

Playing for the min takes almost all of the ability out of deep stack poker. Gus is presumed to be one of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy in for the total amount. I believe television can skew our view of the real world sometimes. The best poker players anywhere in the world might just be guys you have will not have heard of. Gus can be found participating in online poker on Full Tilt. He usually competes in high stakes omaha eight-or-better and texas holdem. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his skills in cash rounds?
