No-Limit Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker competitor on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the negative comments from others kill his goal of being one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

Phil began competing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. He knows he makes errors in each game of poker and always strives to get better.

Although Ivey has won some big tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
