The History of Poker Money
Posted in Poker on 12/02/2009 07:21 pm by FelipeGaming chips have been manufactured from a varied range of materials in an almost endless assortment of variations since the advent of betting and the need to keep an eye on winnings. The most commonly used components used at this time in the manufacture of modern poker chips are plastic, clay, and acrylics. Clay chips, the oldest of the group, have been manufactured in the US since the late 19th century.
Back in the 1800s, poker players seemed to use any tiny valuable item you can imagine. Early poker players sometimes employed jagged gold pieces along with chips – normally manufactured of wood and clay. By the 1900s, poker chip features started to play a greater prominence, and the smooth sides of older chips gave way to chips with slits to keep them neatly arranged with each other.
There is no doubt that poker has expanded constantly in acceptance since its origin in the 19th century. With the explosive growth of online gambling and specialty TV shows, public appeal in poker has accelerated a lot faster than ever before. Many individuals are first introduced to poker by TV showssuch as Bravo’s "Celebrity Poker Showdown" or the Travel Channel’s "World Poker Tour," and most will compete in their first hands on the net. Regardless of internet poker’s growth, nothing competes with the feeling of shuffling heavy clay poker chips in your hand, tossing chips into the center of a poker table, or creating tall pilesstacks of chips after showing a victorious hand.
